DC Hava Plan

In 2002, Congress passed the Help America Vote Act ("HAVA"), Public Law No. 107- 252, 116 Stat. 1666 (2002), landmark legislation to improve the administration of elections in the United States. According to the authors of this legislation, the purpose of HAVA is to ensure that all eligible voters are able to cast a vote and have that vote counted. The District of Columbia Board of Elections is proud to say the District of Columbia is already substantially in compliance with the new federal standards - much to the credit of citizen advocates, previous and current Board members and staff.
